Gender role stressors and women’s health

Being a woman does that mean that they are more pron to get sick or does that only mean that they are more frequently diagnosed. Woman today report that they have more headache and they are diagnosed with more pyschological disorders. Is the reason because they are more likely to go to the doctor. Men if they feeling sick they will refuse to go the doctor. The almost look like are scared of not being in control. So is it fair to say woman have get more illnesses.  Another factor that must be considered are the doctors themselves. As doctors are they more likely to tell woman that they are experiencing certain symptons due to stereotypes or is there medical diagnosis purely medical which is backed behind medical evidence. Fianlly are woman more likely to complain becuase they are woman and by society are viewed as the weaker sex. Or do they actually experience more pain then men. In my opinion it is a combination of all three why woman are more likely to report that they experience pain. Woman are always going to be viewed as the weaker sex even if men start to report that they are ill or experiencing pain. They will develop other gender stereotypes in order to discrete woman from becoming the stronger sex. Being a woman is alot more difficult then men give us credit for. We ae constantly going to uncomfortable events which many times do not have a good explanation. So in other words men need to give us a break. 

Pornography and freedom

What is sexual freedom? Is it the freedom that has a person is given that entitles them to be free with their sexual desires or is it the freedom which woman have obtain throughout the years which allows them to express themselves by their attributes.  Many people believe that the idea of  sexual freedom has been more excepted.  But we as woman are we truly free or their still a double standard. Men are able fully express themselves sexually without being judged and labeled as being premiscious or easy. Instead they are praised and looked up to for doing so. On the other hand woman labeled and are objectified as only sex objects. For instance females in magazines are put in restraints to imply that they are merely there for the males, and they truly do not have any other vaule. In my opinion woman sexual freedom has increased. I believe that there is a difference in the way woman are limited today; however the are limited in their sexuality and the way they express themselves. Maybe who day it will change but until the double standard is there it will not. Woman will supposely  be free to do as they want but in reality that will not be the case.

Desperately Debating Housewives

The show desperate housewives is a televsion show that promotes all the fears that middle age woman are faced with. It illustrates woman fear of weight gain; it also portrays woman as gold- diggers individuals that without men that are not vauled as much. Altough the show is based on four very different woman it provides us with real life issues that many woman are suffering in silience today. For instance the character of Lynette a woman who is asked by her husband to leave her job and focus on raising her children. She is playing a a real problem which many woman are currently facing. Another charectar that is highly critized is the Eva Longoria she play a gold- digging middle age woman who is having a affair because she is not happy in her marriage. Although I do not agree the way the are portraying the message. I do believe that desperate housewives is a programs that is very enlightening and entertaining way of illustrating the issues that a lot of woman are facing. I am not suggesting that are lives are as extreme as these charectars;  however they do provide insight in very real dilemias.

Flat Broke with Children

Many single mothers today are struggling to support themselves and their children. Full of children and broke because they are not provided with the support of the father; many seek support from the government through welfare. This program was implemented by the government in order to provide support for families in need such as these; however many decide to take advantage of the help which the government provides and avoid taking personal responsibility themselves. Consequently, leaving individuals that truly would benefit from them without the opportunity too. In order to avoid these situations from arising the government has develop certain criteria which  must be meet. Although people today are findings ways around the system. This will at least decrease the amount of individuals who are being lazy and just want to stay at home with there kids. It very unfortunate that this even occurs, but I guess that i should not even be suprised because people are lazy by nature. So if they are able to get away with something such as this they are going to try.

Romance sweet love

Fairly tale love is what most people aspire for. Most people want feel loved and cared by some other person. Unfortunately most people are not ready to give that kind of commitment in return.  People frequently confuse lust for love. Erotic attraction is considered bu many to have an intimate attraction, however it is not a sign of love.  Love is truly complete when there is a balance between romantic love, commitment and respect is implenented.  Most people lack one of them. In order for love to work all three must be displayed. Sadly human are selfish by nature and refuse to allow others with intentions of commiting in. Consquenstly, this has made many doubt that true love does existed; therefore they are being to accept what is given to them by others. Instead of enforces their own beliefs and vaules. In my opinion true love does exist and altough people will experience dissappointments will only make someone strongs for the person that they are meant to be with in the end. People should just wait patiently and not jump into love so quickly, it takes time to develop true feelings for someone.

The myth of a perfect mother

Today mothers are in constant struggle with themselves and other woman in order to become the perfect mother. Women today are working forty hour jobs and after work coming home and taking care of the children. Other woman are stay at home mothers who have feelings of guilt due to the fact that they have malicious thoughts about their children or are experiencing guilt because they left their jobs and therefore feel incomplete. Finally we see mothers that have children; however have decided to continue with their carriers and are viewed by others as selfish individuals that have no business being a mother. So who would be considered the perfect mother. In reality their is no such thing as a perfect mother; people do not consider that there are other factors that play in a females life.  Other mothers such be consider this and stop critizing and judging other woman because of their choices. because if we dont we give men the right to due as well. For instance the are first woman and then sisters and mothers. They a People are not perfect and mothers are people so they are not perfect either.

Today when  Monday night football comes on. Hundreds of thousand of people sit down to watch it, however when woman sports such as woman basketball comes on no one really knows. Men have always used the sports such as pro-basket ball and pro- football to discredit woman as athletes. For years there has been a debate among men and woman to see who will be the better not only at sports but in general. Although men still today feel that they should be consider themselves the superior gender; woman today are making great strides in area do not only deal with sport, but in other areas such as business and life in general. We can still consider this a females as the weaker sex, however woman are living longer, and are inquiring advantages that had not be provided in the past. They are also changing the gender roles. For instance men today are staying at home whereas woman are becoming the breadwiners.  Woman are also taking jobs that have been prodomantently offered to men in the past. Issues such as they are slowly being accepted by the mainstream and who know maybe one day the roles will change completely and woman and men will be looked at as equal parterns and sexes.

Homophobia is described as the fear and hatred of individuals who are sexually desire with those of the same sex. Negative stereotypes have been associated with gays and lesbians.  Lesbians are looked as woman who are man haters and woman who do not shave their legs and burn their bras; however, gays are viewed as threat to male dominance and ridiculed and constantly struggling to maintain their identities. Men today are using terms such as gays and lesbians to insure their power and authority. For example if a woman is clearly not insterested in the male then she is automatically percieved as a lesbian, due to the fact she has no desire in him. Although this subject is becoming more except in the mainstream; some people will never accept that being gay or a lesbian should not be viewed as negative a digusting thing. Instead people should have more of an open mind and learn to deal with other individuals choices about their lives.

In the age of globalization woman bodies has become an area of great controversy.  Conservatives and religious political forces are attempting to reinforce traditional views about woman.  In the last decades woman have made great strides around the world in order to maintain their sexual and social rights. However in the middle east some woman are attempting to break free from the persectution which that are faced with. In order to achieve the need to become educated and use religious and political issuse and fight back. Woman in the middle east countries are slowly leaving the tradition views and beliefs which have been implemented in the past. Woman are now rebelling againist society and viewing sexuality as something positive; instead of hiding in shame. Although middle eastern have not completely modernized themselves. They are beginning to express themselves as an invidivial; instead of believing that they are not worthy.
